Smart Meter Leak Alert Information
January 25, 2026
Rose Hill’s smart meters are programmed to send alerts when water has been flowing continuously for 24 hours. These alerts are designed to help customers prevent water damage and avoid costly water bills.
However, smart meters cannot tell the difference between an actual leak and intentional water use, such as dripping faucets during winter storm conditions.
If you receive a leak alert, please consider the following:
-
Think about your water use over the past 24 hours. Were your faucets intentionally dripping to prevent frozen pipes?
-
Check your water pressure and flow. When you turn a faucet on fully, does the water flow appear normal?
If the answer to both questions is yes, the alert can most likely be ignored.
That said, when it is safe to do so, we encourage you to visually inspect your home and property — including houses, barns, sheds, and any areas with water lines or outdoor spigots — to make sure you do not see water bubbling, pooling, or flowing abnormally.
Taking a few moments to check can help ensure there is no hidden leak and provide peace of mind.
